Speaker 1:

Before we jump into today's conversation, let's kick things off with a little boost of motivation taken from my favorite affirmation deck. It says I am worthy of rest and I'll allow myself to fill my cup mentally, emotionally and spiritually For the greater good of my creativity. I absolutely love that reminder. Sometimes I think we all need reminders that we have to refill our cup, and not just our mental cup, and our emotional cup and our spiritual cup. So that's what we're going to be talking about today. We're going to dive into this topic today of refueling your mind, your body and reconnection Refueling your mind, your body and reconnecting spiritually to not just boost your energy but also your creativity, to find more peace, to find more joy and happiness and to feel more fulfilled. So let's get into it.

Speaker 1:

What does it mean to refuel your mind, your body and your spiritual self? So I've looked at this and I thought about it for a while and I was like you know, what does it really mean? It means different things for different people, but what I found when I talked to most people is that to refuel means to replenish your energy, your motivation and your creativity by taking the time to rest and focus on self care. Now you know, I'm all about redefining what self care looks like when it comes to your personal development or whether it's your professional development. I don't think self care fits in a box. I feel like, at different times, different areas of our life, we need different parts of self care. We need to do different things and it just depends on what stage you're in, what it is you need. But refueling your mind involves activities like meditation, journaling or learning new things that allow your mind to relax and to expand, to think about the possibilities. When we are not feeling pressured, we're more open to learning new things. You know it's not about whether we pass or fail or get it right or what other people think. It's just an opportunity to take something that we're interested in and just really learn. And when we're coming from that place of curiosity and arrestfulness, it's different. We immerse ourselves in it differently.

Speaker 1:

Refueling your body can mean recognizing when you need rest, engaging in physical activities that foster that well-being and fueling your body with nourishing foods and I don't know about you, but I can feel when my body needs to get up and move. Normally in my husband we get up and we walk in the morning. I'm just like everybody else. Some days I just don't want to do it and I may skip a day or two, but there are also those days when I'm like I have to get out. I have to do this walk. My body needs the movement, my mind needs the movement, the fresh air to move my body, to have an opportunity for just to center myself, to be in a space where I'm out in nature, reconnecting and feeling more at peace.

Speaker 1:

Reconnecting spiritually can mean tapping into your inner self, seeking a connection to a higher power and whatever that means for you, or finding solace in nature or other practices that align with your beliefs and your values. For me, that really looks like getting up in the morning and taking at least 10 to 15 minutes to sit in silence, do my breathing exercises. It is the most powerful thing that I believe that I do each and every day for myself, and when I do this I honestly I actually feel relaxed. But I feel like I draw so much more creativity to me when I take the time to refuel in just those few minutes and I'm gonna be honest, sometimes I don't have the 15 minutes to do it, sometimes all I have is five, and that's good too, because that means I took five minutes to do something for myself, to reconnect with myself. So you don't always need tons and tons of time to do the things that will bring you the solace, the connection, the physical activity, the nourishing of our bodies. You can do what you can by meeting yourself where you're at, and it matters, because refueling your mind and your body and your spiritual self is crucial for maintaining your optimal mental health. It helps you prevent the burnout and ensures that your creativity doesn't dry up.

Speaker 1:

We've all had those moments where we're like man, like I had this big boost of creativity and I was on a roll, and now I don't feel like I have nothing, like I can't find inspiration. And it happens. But sometimes, when we look at it from a different perspective, we realize that the things that were bringing us inspiration was actually the getting out, the moving the body, the nourishing of the food, the connecting with ourselves, not burning ourselves out, like if you sit in one space for 12 hours, day after day after day and you don't take the time to move and get out or meet people, to be motivated, to be inspired. Where are you drawing the energy from? You have to make sure that well doesn't dry up. You have to keep going.

Speaker 1:

We try to keep up with the endless list of responsibilities and demands, which ultimately takes a toll on our overall well-being. We are not perfect beings and I know sometimes we try to be the perfect version of ourselves, but when we try to be so perfect that it ends up burning us out or stressing us out, that's not the state that we want to be in. We have to make sure that we are flexible with ourselves, so we're giving ourselves grace. We're not supposed to be perfect. We're supposed to be learning, and we learn by making mistakes. We learn by getting it wrong so we can get it right. And that's really what it's all about learning what works for you when it comes to refilling your mind and your body and your spiritual self Like. What does that look like and why does it matter to you? What do you feel like when you do those things?

Speaker 1:

How have you noticed the improvements when you take the time out for yourself, especially if you have kids and a spouse or partner, you want to show up in all of those relationships as a virgin of you that is, you know, patient, that can listen, that can be attentive, that can be intentionally there and focused, not the person that is irritable and, you know, cranky and ready to lash out. When we're taking time for ourselves, we don't get as burnt out. We don't have, you know, so much irritation in us, because we're able to have those moments where we can pull it all back in and and find that peace within ourselves. Because when we are constantly running on empty, not only do we jeopardize our physical and mental health, but we miss the very purpose of life, and that is to live.

Speaker 1:

Oftentimes I hear people say that rest or refueling is a luxury and it's not a need. However, sarah Jakes Roberts once said resting isn't just a self-care act. It's an intentional part of nurturing our whole selves. So, rather than seeing refueling or resting as downtime, think of it as an investment in yourself. It is not lazy, it is not selfish. It's essential for your mental and emotional health, as well as for maintaining a vibrant creative flow. Now they all have beliefs around our mindset around rest, around refueling, around. You know what our minds need and what our body needs. You know, people tell us all the time what we should do, and I think it's time that we stop listening to other people and listen to our bodies, Listen to what our body is telling us it needs. It's time to shift our mindset and redefine what productivity means. Productivity should not be the solely measured by how much we can produce or how many tasks we can complete. It should also encompass the steps we take to recharge, to care for ourselves and be the best and be the best version of ourselves. Allow yourself to redefine that success. And it's all about balance. But also I want you to understand that balance doesn't mean equal halves, but a sense of peace, knowing that you are able to give in a way that feels good to you.

Speaker 1:

I think sometimes we get caught up in the idea of you know, I want this balanced life. But we have to ask ourselves what does a balanced life look for us? It's not going to look the same as we see on TV or we see our friend or neighbor, or this idea that you know you can have it all. You can have it all. You can your version of having it all, and your version of having it all, a balance, may not be this picture, perfect, ideal way of balance.

Speaker 1:

My idea of balance is having a day set aside for my family where we just do stuff together. You know, it means saying no to things that don't necessarily serve me or energize me or make me feel good about who I am and what I do. Having, you know, waking up in the morning and having that me time to just sit in my own space and just listen to what my mind says, what my body says To me, that's having a balanced life. And if I can get up and move in the morning and walk, then that's just icing on the cake to my balance. You know I love to add in a walk, I love to add in healthy foods. It doesn't always work that way. You know my idea of balance. I try to get the good things in when I can, but the most important part is my family. It's having the moment to sit with myself, because I have to take care of the mental part of me before I can take care of the rest of me. And that's just for me.

Speaker 1:

It may look different for you, your version may be, you know, once I get my body moving and I do my exercise in the morning, my mental health thing comes into play and that gets me going and then everything else just kind of falls in order. We are all totally different, but the one thing that we are all the same is that we want to be the best version of ourselves. We want to work at our optimal best right All the time, and I truly, truly believe in rest and refueling. And I will tell you, I used to be very, very obsessed with rest and refueling and I really had to kind of pull back a little bit because at some point it was very unrealistic, and it used to. I had this idea of what my rest time should look like and if it didn't go according to plan, then I would get like a lot of anxiety around it. But what we have to come to realize is that some days will look different, some days are busier than others and when you recognize that you can kind of plan around it, you can set things in place to have that, but also to not burn ourselves out, not to be so stressed.

Speaker 1:

One of my favorite quotes was in the midst of movement and chaos, keep stillness inside of you. I love that. I read it somewhere and I just absolutely loved it because I feel that connecting with our spiritual selves helps us find a sense of peace, a sense of purpose and grounding, and this, in return, fuels our creativity as we tap into a greater source of inspiration and energy. How you connect spiritually will be unique to you, whether it's through meditation, prayer or connecting with nature. Finding that inner stillness can help us connect and renew ourselves. Now here are a few tips that will help you.

Speaker 1:

So questions you should ask yourself. If you're unsure whether it's time to refuel, try asking yourself am I feeling drained or am I constantly feeling fatigued? Is my creativity output diminishing? Or maybe ask yourself am I struggling to focus on tasks? For me, that is a big one. When I start to lose focus and I really can't concentrate and my creativity just seems really like I have to try really, really hard, then I know I need to take a break. It's time to refill myself. It is time to step back a little bit, because most of the time when we come back, we usually have we start filling our cup and once we start doing that, we can really feel the energy restore itself. You may even ask yourself? How is your sleep quality? Are you experiencing any physical signs of stress? And do you feel disconnected from your spiritual self or your inner guidance?

Speaker 1:

If you'd answered yes to any of these questions, consider incorporating refueling practices into your daily routine and, like I said, this could be different for each of us. You may like to meditate, you may like to do mindfulness, which is just carving out some quiet time for yourself each day to center your thoughts and find that internal calm which is so sacred and so important. You may even try some breathing exercises and, as you know, I am a big promoter of breathing exercises. Doing those deep, controlled breaths can help you relieve stress and tension and recharge your mental energy in ways that, especially for me, that I never thought possible. And also exercise and movement gentle exercises. It doesn't have to be hardcore hit exercises. You can do stuff like yoga, walking, stretching. All those things help release that feel good hormone and help you refuel your body and tune into your spiritual beliefs and practices.

Speaker 1:

Engage in spiritual activities that resonate with you, if that's prayer, if that's journaling or just connecting with nature. You have to find what's best for you, what aligns with your beliefs and your values, and make it a priority to put yourself first.
